Ok. And then see if it will read either CD or DVD. If it reads neither, or just reads 1 or the other, and then the light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation is gone and you will need to supercede the bulldoze.

Ok. Then see if it will read either CD or DVD. If it reads neither, or just reads 1 or the other, then the laser is gone and y'all will demand to replace the drive.

So many of you guys give this very useless information. Simply because windows fix cant fix any thing bar the most simple problems it does not mean the drive is faulty. I have discovered that this is an all too common problem with windows 7. After 3 days constant searching and trying all the various suggestions with no resolve. I fifty-fifty did a make clean install of windows 7 and tried 3 unlike dvd devices that were all working, no joy. I ended up talking to a windows engineer live on line who insisted he could ready this problem with remote control with my computer while I watch. The money he required was not acceptable for fixing what I thought should be repaired for free. He wanted $99. probably over £fifty. Do not waste your time and coin trying any of the recommendations that will only waste material many hours, only to discover the people recommending them practice not sympathize the problem. When Microsoft can do it in minuets on line for a price simply proves it. I will give you the cure for this trouble that will non waste matter your fourth dimension. On ebay buy an external dvd drive. I paid £xi for mine. I plugged information technology in the usb port and it worked. So simple it realy pisses me off how people including Microsoft wasted three solid days of my time with nothing but bullshit.

I tried everything I institute on the net short of re installing Vista Domicile- no filters in the registry- shows up in device manager, deleted and reinstalled drivers, cleaned drive, etc etc .

I bought USB DVD bulldoze and in that location is yet no media detected.

Problem occurred when I was installing a DVD copy program I downloaded from a legitimate site. There was a program which was downloaded at the same (which I opted not to download but information technology did anyway) and information technology started scanning for errors and cleaned the registry at the same time I was installing the copy program.

External difficult disks are unaffected. Without the DVD bulldoze can I copy the vista installation dvd into a external hard drive?

I got an LG GSA-H55N super multi DVD RW. It was working fine on my P4 car but I disassembled that electric stove. For years it just laid in a corned inside a box, in a good condition. Today I got my IDE-SATA ii USB2 adapter and connected it to my laptop. Right now I ability upwardly with a pc psu (12+5V).
I take windows 7 64bit and information technology recognized everything. it shows as DVD RW in explorer, its name is correct in device manager, but under backdrop page of device managing director it appears as CD-ROM device in destription(name yet correct but description incorrect i think, this is not ROM bulldoze)
then
it won't detect any disc. Yes DVD kind or CD kind, cipher works. It does however spin upwards and try to read it. I tin can tell from the lights and voices coming from information technology but windows shows there is no cd or i get fault messages like mediatype can not be read by MS repair tool.
with dBpoweramp CDripper I tried to RIP an audio CD that I already ripped on another bulldoze and I got a foreign event:
after a number of open/close tray attempts it could read that in that location is a CD and tracks listed however when i clicked "rip information technology" it went as well fast!! but disc wasn't spinning that fast! That is suspicious!!!
I also flashed and tried different firmware versions from United kingdom site(just in case region issue, mine was uniform with Uk) results didnt alter.
Subsequently posting this i will kicking on linux and encounter if it works.
This is actually annoying issue considering this device was working just fine and I don't want to buy a new device if information technology is merely because of some shitty software for something I don't use oftentimes anymore...

I had the same problem later on upgrading to Windows seven, I purchased a Sony Imagination studio for my son and the DVD Rom would not read it. It would however read DVD's just not the Sony installation disc. I went through every prepare I could discover online short of Replacement. I finally went to Dell'south website and downloaded back up assist. This program checks your entire reckoner for problems. Drivers, speed, everything. I noticed that my DVD Rom passed the exam only it was reading equally a CD Rom, not a DVD Rom. On the Diagnostics page that pops up, there are different sections for dissimilar issues. There was a a part that said to Download Microsoft Prepare it to test Optical drives. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems I downloaded and ran the fix and sure enough, My Sony Imagination Studio popped up and started downloading. Finally.
